Emphasising approach and achievements
Throughout the GENDERACTIONplus journey, we built strong, collaborative communities of practice among national authorities and research funders, driving forward mutual learning, coordination, and impactful policy work. Despite growing anti-gender mobilisations and political pushbacks, we stayed the course—developing new tools, generating evidence, and crafting policy recommendations that respond to both persistent gaps and promising practices. From supporting gender equality plans to addressing intersectional inequalities and gender-based violence, our work has shaped national policies and informed European research priorities. GENDERACTIONplus leaves a lasting legacy—and we’re not done yet.
Mobilisation Network for Inclusive Gender Equality in R&I: Join our common endeavour
Gender equality, diversity and inclusiveness in research and innovation are facing global challenges. In the US, these are currently coupled with an attack on academic freedoms, censorship and budget cuts to research on gender equality, diversity and inclusiveness topics. In Europe, we are facing challenges of our own, including rising anti-gender movements and increasing attacks on gender and feminist scholars, often involving hate speech. This changing climate will have an impact on research and innovation landscape, including EU-level policy.
This is happening at a critical time when the negotiations of the next Framework Programme are in full swing. The achievements of Horizon Europe, most significantly the Gender Equality Plan eligibility criterion, are at risk.
Therefore, now we need a broad and strong network of all the stakeholders in the research and innovation community — uniting
gender equality practitioners, feminist researchers, associations, and non-profit organisations with representatives of national authorities, research funders and research and higher education institutions — to mobilise against any rollbacks.
To this end, we in GENDERACTIONplus are launching a mobilisation network. We are calling on our community to join a network for those of us who are concerned and care for the future of inclusive gender equality in European research and innovation. Together, we can — and must — prevent backsliding on recent progress.
