Objectives

GENDERACTIONplus2027 aims to advance inclusive gender equality in the European Research Area. It supports national authorities, research and innovation funding organisations and ERA stakeholders in moving

from policy commitments to practical implementation by:

  • Strengthening policy coordination through a transnational Community of Practice for national authorities and research and innovation funding organisations.
  • Building practical capability for designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating inclusive and intersectional gender equality policies.
  • Developing tools that help users turn inclusive gender equality goals into concrete action in research and innovation policy.
  • Monitoring progress, supporting uptake and creating conditions for the long-term availability and use of project results.

How the project works

The project follows a practical learning cycle: identify needs, exchange experience, co-create, test and refine tools, and feed the lessons back into policy discussions. This approach keeps the project close to real implementation challenges and helps to make the outputs useful for different national and organisational settings.

  • Relevance: tools and guidance respond to concrete needs identified by users.
  • Co-creation: outputs are developed with the Community of Practice, the ERA Forum Sub-group on Inclusive Gender Equality and relevant ERA stakeholders.
  • Peer learning: trusted exchange helps participants translate European objectives into national and organisational practice.
  • Monitoring for learning: evidence is used to support reflection, capability building and better policy design.
  • Open access and reuse: public outputs are made available through the project website and toolkit, with relevant materials deposited in Zenodo and monitoring evidence accessible through the ERA Monitoring Data Dashboard.

Impact

GENDERACTIONplus2027 works towards a European Research Area where inclusive gender equality is better coordinated, more consistently supported, and backed by the knowledge, tools and evidence needed for implementation in national and research funding contexts.

We aim to reduce the gap between policy ambition and everyday implementation. We do this by creating trusted spaces for exchange, developing practical tools, and producing evidence that can support policy learning and decision-making.

Better policy coordination across Europe

The project strengthens cooperation between national authorities, research and innovation funding organisations and European Research Area stakeholders. Through the Community of Practice, participants can compare approaches, discuss common challenges and identify practical ways to advance inclusive gender equality in their own contexts.

Stronger practical capability

GENDERACTIONplus2027 supports people and organisations responsible for equality in research and innovation policy. It offers peer learning, capability-building activities and how-to resources that can be adapted to different levels of experience, institutional settings and policy environments.

Practical tools for implementation

The project will make practical resources available through a user-centred toolkit. These will include guidance, templates, checklists, training materials and policy tools to support inclusive gender equality, intersectionality and gender mainstreaming in research and innovation policy.

Better evidence for learning and policy improvement

Through monitoring and the ERA Monitoring Data Dashboard, GENDERACTIONplus2027 will provide accessible evidence on how inclusive gender equality policies are being implemented. The aim is to support reflection, identify patterns and gaps, and strengthen policy learning.

More attention to intersectionality

The project supports a more inclusive understanding of gender equality by helping policy actors address intersecting inequalities in research and innovation systems. This includes developing guidance and recommended indicators that can support more targeted and feasible policy action.

Longer-term availability and reuse

Core public project outputs will remain accessible beyond the project time through the website, toolkit and open repositories such as Zenodo. This supports long-term access, reuse and adaptation by national authorities, research and innovation funding organisations, ERA stakeholders and others working to strengthen inclusive gender equality.

Longer-term contribution

In the longer term, GENDERACTIONplus2027 contributes to fairer, more inclusive and more accountable research and innovation systems. By strengthening policy coordination, practical capability, policy monitoring and uptake, the project supports more consistent implementation of inclusive gender equality across the European Research Area.

Consortium

GENDERACTIONplus2027 is delivered by an experienced consortium with long-standing cooperation and wide-ranging expertise in European gender equality and research policy. It also includes 29 Associated Partners participating primarily through the project’s Community of Practice.

Deliverable reports

Public deliverable reports will be published here as they become available. They document the project’s methods, outputs, findings and lessons learned, and provide a transparent record of project implementation.

No public deliverable reports are available yet. They will be added during the project and shared through the project website, the toolkit where relevant, and the GENDERACTIONplus2027 Zenodo community.

Links with ERA policy and previous work

GENDERACTIONplus2027 builds on the work of GENDERACTION and GENDERACTIONplus and continues supporting gender equality policy coordination in the European Research Area. The project is closely connected to the ERA policy agenda on inclusive gender equality, especially the structural policy on “Strengthening inclusive gender equality in the ERA, notably with an intersectional approach, and works closely with the ERA Forum Sub-group on Inclusive Gender Equality.
