Between June 2022 and May 2025, GENDERACTIONplus and its two Communities of Practice, comprising National Authorities and Research Funding Organisations, worked together to advance inclusive gender equality in the European Research Area.

Project achievements
GENDERACTIONplus was a four-year Horizon Europe project that brought together national authorities and research funding organisations across Europe to advance inclusive gender equality in research and innovation. Running until May 2025, the project focused on five key areas: intersectionality and inclusiveness, gender-based violence, the gender dimension in R&I, monitoring of gender equality in the European Research Area, and institutional change thrugh Gender Equality Plans. It supported two Communities of Practice—national authorities and RFOs—through workshops, capacity-building, policy briefs, and national impact plans. GENDERACTIONplus contributed to stronger policy coordination by providing strategic advice, benchmarking, mutual learning, and practical tools such as a data-driven dashboard or guides.

After three years of collaboration, research, and dialogue, GENDERACTIONplus presents 13 policy briefs offering concrete recommendations to strengthen gender equality across the European Research Area. These briefs span five core project topics and address all key stakeholders—the European Commission, Member States and research funders.

Its legacy is a stronger, more connected network of practitioners equipped with the tools and confidence to drive change.
GENDERACTIONplus is a beacon in the European gender equality, diversity and inclusion field, strategically and expertly working towards more inclusive national and regional policies in ERA through gathering expert knowledge in the field, sharing best-practices and capacity building. We have been humbled and honored to be in dialogue with so many brilliant minds in this project, and we’re sure that GENDERACTIONplus’ impact will far outlive the project.
Being part of GENDERACTIONplus felt like shaping the future of research with heart and purpose. Its legacy is a community that dared to push boundaries for real change in gender equality.
