GENDERACTION impact plan 2020
In February 2020, GENDERACTION organised a mutual learning workshop on communication and impact building in Prague for members of the GENDERACTION consortium. One of the tasks was to discuss and further develop an EU impact plan. Consortium members were also asked to compile their national impact plan. Both the EU and national impact plans are meant to use the GENDERACTION outputs and support or initiate progress in gender equality in research and innovation in their countries.
The EU impact plan
The main goal of the EU impact plan is to increase general awareness and build ownership and uptake of gender equality objectives and measures in R&I in terms of (1) implementation in Horizon Europe and ERA, (2) implementation by the European Commission, European Parliament, and other ERA stakeholders. Although some of our planned activities have been postponed, reduced and/or given up due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we successfully managed to fulfill the 2020 impact plan.
What did we do?
- We have liaised successfully with Horizon Europe Mission Board members. In 2019, we shared with them our policy brief on Missions. In 2020, we prepared short documents on the integration of the gender dimension in each mission with tailored recommendations (two of them were created in cooperation with our H2020 sister projects: BalticGender and GenderSMART).
- We were successful in attracting attention to Horizon Europe consultations (1&2). Of course, we participated in the consultation with our inputs too.
- We have made GENDERACTION outputs visible during the European Research and Innovation Days (through our Twitter account and participation in online discussions). Marcela Linková, coordinator of GENDERACTION and the newly re-elected chair of the Standing Working Group on Gender in Research and Innovation, took part in the workshop “Get ready: A new for is calling”. In cooperation with our sister project Gearing Roles, we have accompanied the workshop with a Twitter campaign to showcase the importance of gender equality plans. More than three dozen entities, including H2020 sister projects and institutions involved in their implementation, have joined us.
- We have contacted ERA stakeholders and European Parliament Members who are active in ITRE and FEMM Committees.
- We have contacted global stakeholders (such as the OECD gender initiative and Global network of UNESCO Chairs on Gender). We have joined UNESCO consultation on gender in open science and emphasised the importance of gendered aspects in OS policies as well (see our policy brief and deliverable on this issue).
- During the 1st wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, we launched a Good news in gender in R&I campaign on Twitter to spread some positivity.
- We have worked intensively on translating selected GENDERACTION policy briefs to increase their reach on the level of Member states (see the French and Polish ones on our website, others will follow soon).
- We have continued disseminating GENDERACTION’s newest outputs such as D3.2 “Report on Monitoring of ERA Priority 4 Implementation”, the two pagers “Gender equality and research and innovation performance go hand in hand” and “Why we need gender in ERA“, as well as our policy briefs on disruptive measures and gender in international cooperation in STI.
- We have increased the number of followers of our Twitter account by 10 % and the number of newsletter subscribers by 40 % in 2020.
- Last but not least we have started to work on videos presenting GENDERACTION outputs.
